Hundreds affected by outbreak of norovirus on the cruise ship Balmoral


Hundreds of passengers aboard the Fred Olsen cruise liner the Balmoral have fallen ill due to an outbreak of norovirus.

The Balmoral left Southampton on 16 April 2016 and docked in Maine on 8 May 2016. The US Centers for Disease Control reported that 252 of the 919 passengers aboard had been ill due to the stomach virus.

Symptoms of the illness can include sudden onset of vomiting and/or diarrhoea together with temperature, stomach cramps and headache.
